Constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood

In a non-binding but deeply heartwarming move, Portland, Maine council voted last night 6-2 for a Constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood, thus joining New York, Los Angeles, and several other enlightened towns. Everyone at the hearing spoke in favor of the resolution, which calls on other Maine communities to pass similar measures.

“The great wealth of large corporations allows them to wield coercive force of law to overpower the votes of human beings and communities, thus denying We the People’s exercise of our constitutional rights,” the resolution states, in part. “The judicial and political bestowal of civil and political rights upon corporations usurps basic human and constitutional rights guaranteed to human persons.”
