No hay carritos con comida, ni bebidas de colores. Tampoco clases de yoga. Ni masajes. Solo una mesita con algunos aperitivos a la entrada. A diferencia de muchas oficinas en el valle del silicio, junto a la bahía de San Francisco, no hay sitio para presumir. Los fundadores se colocan en las mismas mesas que sus empleados, rodeados de grafitis, en una de ellas está el logo de la empresa: WhatsApp, pero desde la calle esto no se advierte. De hecho, aunque se tenga la dirección, fuera solo aparece una empresa de fundas para aparatos de Apple en Mountain View. Están en el corazón del valle, cerca de Cisco, Google y Facebook.

Más de 200 millones de usuarios son su aval. Brian Acton (Estados Unidos, 1972) y Jan Koum (Ucrania, 1976) se alejan mucho de los típicos emprendedores de la zona. Ya no son unos jovencitos alocados. Su máxima es prescindir de lo accesorio. Su aplicación WhatsApp, nacida en 2009, ha mandado los SMS al cementerio. Cada día, 40 personas gestionan el envío de 9.000 millones de mensajes y la recepción de 15.000 millones.
